Winter's Companion ~ Knitting

 

Hello friends!

Are there any knitters out there??!!!

;)

 

Come on in and sit with me for a bit.

I love to cozy up in our living room,

after shutting the French doors

and just enjoy some quiet creative time.

I don't know if you knit,

 or have picked up the needles at one time or another.

I did years ago when my two oldest were just toddlers,

and I did make a vest, and a tank top,

but then I put those needles down

and quite frankly, just forgot about it.

 

 

This coming April,

it will be 1 1/2 years since I picked up some needles again and re-learned

this fine art of knitting.

I    l o v e  it!

Absolutely adore the moments when I can sit down and knit!

It is  t r a n q u i l i t y  to me.

It calms me,

and allows me to just be still,

and ponder,

and create

all at the same time.

How wonderful is that?!

 

 

I'm still very much a beginner

and learning, learning, learning. ;)

Once a week I bring myself and my knitting bag

downtown and gather together with some sweet ladies.

My teacher has her own knitting shop downtown

 and she teaches umpteen classes during the week

and offers various courses here n there on some weekends.

She's a little sweetheart...

Rae has just turned 25 and has been running her own shop

quite successfully for about 6 years!

Amazing!

 

 

We all bring our own projects and work on whatever we want

and Rae is there to offer help and/or instruction as we need it.

I had seen a cowl in the shop which had caught my eye.

It was knit in the "herringbone stitch".

Of course, I asked Rae..."do you think I could knit that Rae"

to which she always answers, "of course you could!"

She is so positive, so encouraging and just plain cute!

So....I decided to make one and planned to give it to my baby sister

for Christmas.

 

 

I picked out some gorgeous merino yarn

and set about learning this stitch.

I'm sure about 3 different times I almost set it down and gave up.

I tried at class, and then I tried at home,

almost feeling like a contortionist just trying to position my hands and needles...lol!

A bit dramatic, but ya..you get the point? (No pun intended! lol )

I undid it a few times,

 made some mistakes along the way (while it was yet in the beginnings of it).

I drove to the store a few times to see Rae and get my stitches back on track,

but I persevered and kept going.

I  w i l l   do this I said.

 

 

And I did.

I absolutely love this stitch!

My sister loves it and I am so happy she does.

My mother fell in love with it too...

and so I am going to begin one for her soon

for next Christmas.

Momma will not choose another colour..she loves this one too much!

Ok Momma...it'll be like "deja-vu" but I'd love to create which ever

yarn you choose!

I told her I'd better start it soon, before I forget the stitch..lol

But the great thing is...

You Tube

has so many teaching videos as well on knitting stitches, etc

and you can start and stop the video when you need to.

It's a great help,

but I love the   f  u  n   of attending my knitting class!
